Steady Progress for the Girls Tennis Team

By Therese Carpenter

The Dana Hills Girl’s tennis team has made CIF. It was a close call as in the most recent match that determined their spot they unfortunately lost. However despite such they are able to go because according to Coach Eric “...we just found out that our league had a rule change. The top 3 teams from our league get into the Team CIF Championships. And we finished third”. As mentioned in the most recent match the Dolphins had a harsh loss against San Clemente the score being 4-10. Junior Varsity player, Ayla Vettrianno commented before the match (against San Clemente) despite losing to the Trojans in the past they stand a better chance this time around because “we know what to expect” and are “ready for the challenge”. Prior to San Clemente the most memorable match of the season was Mission Viejo. The dolphins fought hard coming out on top (score being 10-9). However, in the match there was a tie between the teams resulting in all the doubles and singles coming back onto the court and needing to do a tiebreaker. Sophomore Riley W says she felt as if “the whole team was watching” and the score was 6-5. Riley claims she “had come back 4 points”. On the last point she won the game and was one of the many winning games that helped the dolphins one step closer to being able to compete at CIF. Trabuco Hills was an amazing comeback for the dolphins (in comparison to their games prior to this one) as they dominated the mustangs once again. Then San Clemente for the first time was their third loss in the row being a tough match with a great difference of 6-12. Before San Clemente, was the game of El Toro, the score as 7-11 being another loss for the mighty dolphins. The second match of the season is when they played against Mission Viejo for the first time, the score being 7-11 demonstrating a clear loss for the dolphins. Then first match of the season was Trabuco Hills, the score being 11-7 with the dolphins dominating the mustangs. When asked about Trabuco Hills Sophomore Riley W comments that it was “tough because it was our first season match”. Despite having a few rough patches the Dolphins secured their spot in CIF. The team looks ahead with a renewed motivation now that their CIF qualification is now official. The Dolphins’ season for Girls Tennis has come to a success and now they wait for what's next.
