A fun-filled event occurred in Dana Hill’s porthole on Tuesday, October 28th, Broadway Night! This concert consisted of dance production, dance ensemble, band, wind ensemble, and vocal choir. It lasted a little over two hours, consisting of multiple pieces from each section of our SOSCA team. This broadway night was the biggest one Dana has had in years, with the show ending up being sold out. Mrs. Lee, who is our dance production and ensemble teacher, says this concert is “broadway or musical themed routines” and that this is a “tradition we’ve done every year at Dana since she can remember”. Lots of practice goes into exciting concerts like these, Dance Ensemble practices their routines for 6 weeks, Dance Production practices for 3 weeks, and all the factions of choir practices their pieces for a couple weeks. Three students were shining with their first choreographed pieces of the school year. These pieces were “I Can’t Do It Alone” by Teagan Wallace, “New Money” by Anna Fazzalaro, and “School of Rock” by Mia Lagestee. They taught their pieces to Dance Ensemble, which were performed beautifully. Senior Jason Brown, who is in Madrigals and Blue Lantern Jazz choir, has been doing this concert for three years now and says favorite piece from Broadway night was “One Short Day” from Wicked. He would describe this concert as entertaining, grand, spectacular, and says it’s one of the biggest SOSCA concerts. Some examples of broadway pieces performed in this concert were School of Rock, The Great Gatsby, Hairspray, Chicago, Beetlejuice and lots of Hamilton. In Dance Ensemble’s performance of School of Rock, Rylee Gerlach and Dante Vazquez from our STEPS program rocked out on stage. Senior Zachary Williams who plays the percussion in wind ensemble has been doing this concert all four years of high school, and is playing “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music. He would describe this concert as song, dance, and music, which sums up all of the great performances in Broadway Night. Our SOSCA program is looking forward to their next show: “Dance Concert” in February, and the musical “Little Women”. All of the students who performed put tons of work into their pieces, which showcased the immense talent we have at our school, and made
