After being closed for 18 months, the newly renovated Dana Point Library reopened to the public on September 4. The original building, first constructed in 1976, has now been refreshed with modern updates while keeping its community spirit intact. Library Assistant Linda Gottfredson explained that the remodel reflects a larger goal from OC Public Libraries: “OC Public Libraries wants all of their libraries to look alike.” She added that she is pleased with the new interior design, where teal carpet and walls create a coordinated, welcoming atmosphere. A highlight of the renovation is the Library of Things, which lets cardholders check out instruments, sewing machines, telescopes, and corn hole sets for three weeks. Board games and DVDs are also available. Another addition, “book clubs in a basket,” provides sets with 10 copies of a book and discussion questions. For students, the library now offers an enclosed teen room with desks, outlets, and soundproof walls, along with a study room for quiet work. Progra ming has also expanded, including “Teen Tuesday” on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Looking ahead, the library plans to invite teens to volunteer, helping with shelving and project prep while earning service hours. With its new design, resources, and programs, the revitalized Dana Point Library provides a welcoming space to relax and connect with books, learning, and the community.
