Sun-Rising Into Senior Year

By Molly Anderson

Senior Sunrise is a much-coveted event at Dana Hills High School. Every year, seniors look forward to coming together at the beginning of the school year to enjoy breakfast and make memories they can look back on. Around 200 seniors purchased tickets and gathered on the football field for Senior Sunrise on August 24, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. The annual event gave seniors the opportunity to eat breakfast and spend time with their friends. The morning was planned by ASU and organized by senior class president Katie King. “The turnout was amazing,” King said. “It was so much fun to see the senior class hanging out, connecting, eating, and having fun all together.” ASU's main goal when organizing Senior Sunrise was to unite the class and give students an event to look forward to early in the school year. “We wanted kids to feel connected and comfortable with people in their class so that the rest of the year, they can only grow closer,” King stated. Organizing an event for the entire class required ASU to consider different options for food and location. They ultimately decided to hold the event on the football field and offer breakfast from a local favorite, I Heart Bagels. There was no entry fee, but students who wanted to purchase breakfast could buy tickets for $30. Senior Sunrise is an annual tradition for seniors and one of the first events specifically organized for their class. King believes “it lays out the framework for the rest of the year and is a true bonding experience, and having it on the field makes it so much more special as well.”
