Soccer: Defense, Discipline, Determination

 By Camilla Rodriguez

The boys soccer season is underway with a 4–3 overall record, most recently falling 2–1 to the University Trojans on Dec. 8 before bouncing back with a 2–0 shutout against Fullerton, followed by a 4–0 loss to Northwood and an earlier 0–3 defeat to Aliso Niguel; prior to that stretch, the team earned strong wins over Warren, Laguna Beach, and Woodbridge, and now looks ahead to its Jan. 9 matchup against Trabuco. The girls soccer team has had a challenging start at 0–4–2, opening league play with a 6–0 loss to Laguna Beach before earning a 0–0 tie against University, later falling 1–0 to Northwood, tying Laguna Hills 0–0, and losing tournament games to South Hills and Rancho Buena Vista, with their next match set for Dec. 20 against Xavier Prep. The Girls Tennis team ended its season with five CIF wins after 13 tough matches, closing on Nov. 10 against Oaks Christian in the seniors’ final game, which included a brief scare when a man recording the girls was removed; earlier, they defeated Rancho Cucamonga, with Anna Scott and Saylor Schutte going 9–0 in all three CIF matches despite the stress of a new tiebreaker rule. The football team wrapped up its season after a strong run, beating Northwood 49–6, nearly completing a comeback in a 27–26 loss to Aquinas, and falling 14–13 to Palos Verdes in cold rain, with Carter Anderson praising the coaches and seniors for their leadership. Girls Volleyball reached CIF and ended its season on Nov. 13 after a close 3–2 loss to Carlsbad, following wins over Westview, La Canada, Santiago, Quartz Hill, Arcadia, Capo Valley Christian, Trabuco Hills, and Aliso Niguel, finishing 15–14 and third in league. In Cross Country, Oliver Hunter became the Division 3 CIF‑SS State individual champion with a 14:55 5k, winning CIF prelims, CIF‑SS, and State on Nov. 29, while the boys team placed fourth in league and 13th at CIF‑SS; girls runner Miranda Toral said the season went well and expressed excitement for her younger teammates’ future. Overall, Dana Hills athletics continues to show determination, resilience, and growth across every program this season.
