How Old Is Too Old To Go Trick-Or-Treating?

 By Jake Powell

Every Halloween, the same question always comes up, when are you too old to go trick-or-treating? Some people believe that the cut off to Trick or Treat is middle school. Others say it’s fine to keep going as long as you enjoy it. Honestly, I don’t think there’s any real age limit and Halloween should be for anyone who still enjoys the excitement of dressing up, walking around with friends, and collecting way too much candy. When you think about it, Trick-or-Treating isn’t only about the candy. It’s about being creative, hanging out with your community, and getting a break from all the usual boring stuff that fills your ordinary day. You can be a little kid in a dinosaur costume or a high schooler dressed as Spider-Man but either way, you’re out there making people smile and just having fun on this once a year thing. There’s no rule that says you have to stop doing that just because you got taller or your voice got deeper. As long as you are committed and having fun, then there should be nothing stopping you from having fun. Some adults complain that older kids shouldn’t go door to door because they think it “ruins it for the little ones,” but honestly, most older trick-or-treaters are polite. They say “thank you,” wear real costumes, and don’t try to cause any problems. A lot of them just want to have one more fun night before real adult life takes over. Seeing teens reminds everyone that growing up doesn’t mean you have to stop enjoying yourself or being a little silly sometimes. If you’re thirty years old showing up alone with a pillowcase, maybe it’s time to switch sides and hand out candy instead, but as long as you’re still in school, I say you’re definitely not too old. Halloween is supposed to be about creativity, community, and having a good time. It’s one of the few nights where everyone, no matter their age, can feel like a kid again. So if you still want to go trick-or-treating this year, I encourage you to do it. Dress up, grab some friends, and enjoy it because there’s no shame in wanting to have fun. Ultimately, what makes Halloween fun is the feeling, so if someone approaches it with a festive and joyful spirit, they’re not too old to enjoy it. Just make sure to grab an almond joy for your mom, or your wife if you are that old.
